Composition date:

1874-1875

About

Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 is with no doubt one of the composer's most famous scores. Its ardor and its technical difficulties made it one of the young virtuoso's best-loved piano concerti. The work was premiered in Boston in October 1875 by Hans von Bülow, under the baton of Benjamin Johnson Lang.

The pianists competing at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition must perform one of Tchaikovsky's two first piano concerti.

Movements:

  • Allegro non troppo e molto maestoso – Allegro con spirito
  • Andantino semplice – Prestissimo
  • Allegro con fuoco
